Objective
Prof. (Dr.) Acharya Rishi Ranjan is a distinguished legal academician, administrator, researcher and experienced higher-education professional, currently serving as the Director of the Institute of Legal Studies, Ranchi University, since July 2026.
Prior to joining Ranchi University, Prof. (Dr.) Ranjan served in different role like – Head, Dean, and Faculty of Law, and as Pro-Vice-Chancellor Netaji Subhas University, sine 13th November to till 27 July 2026. During his tenure, he was associated with and served as Ex-Officio Chairperson of various statutory and non-statutory bodies and committees of the University, contributing significantly to academic governance, institutional administration, quality enhancement and regulatory compliance. He has also served as Principal (Law), Oriental University, Indore, Madhya Pradesh, Galgotia University Pt. Motilal Nehru Post Graduate Law College, Chhatarpur, Madhya Pradesh and Faculty (HOD LL.M) of BMT Law College (Autonomous)Purnia Bihar.
Academic Qualifications
Prof. (Dr.) Ranjan has pursued his entire higher academic career in the field of Law. He obtained his LL.M. in 2006 and Ph.D. in Law in 2010 from Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University.
He has demonstrated outstanding academic merit, having secured the highest marks in LL.B. and LL.M., for which he was awarded Merit Certificates by the University authorities.
Research and Academic Contributions
He has made substantial contributions to legal scholarship and research. He has approximately 37 research papers published in various reputed journals, covering contemporary and emerging areas of law.
He has successfully guided:
  • • 07 Ph.D. scholars on contemporary legal issues; and
  • • 189 LL.M. students in their dissertation/research work.
He possesses considerable familiarity with university documentation, statutory requirements, regulatory compliance and institutional affairs, including matters relating to regulatory and statutory bodies such as the University Grants Commission (UGC), Bar Council of India (BCI), Pharmacy Council of India (PCI), National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE),NAAC and other relevant regulatory authorities.
Prof. (Dr.) Ranjan has actively participated in academic and professional forums and has delivered lectures as a Resource Person in seminars, conferences, academic programmes and other scholarly forums. He has delivered academic lectures and participated in programmes within India as well as abroad, sharing his expertise on contemporary legal and academic issues.
He has also participated in approximately 25 seminars, conferences and academic programmes, reflecting his continued engagement with the wider academic and legal community. He has continuously undertaken professional and academic development programmes. He has successfully completed:

  • • Many Faculty Development Programmes (FDPs)
  • • NAAC Accreditation Foundation Course

Prof. (Dr.) Raman’s decision to pursue an academic career in law was inspired by his deep interest in legal education and the motivation received from distinguished members of the judiciary. After completing his LL.M., he chose academia as a professional calling with the objective of contributing to the development of legal education, research and socially responsive legal professionals.
